šš½ Welcome to The Folklore, our weekly newsletter where we talk about our journey of building Folklory, a startup that helps you turn family memories into podcasts. Weāll share weekly updates, wins, and learnings, so sign up if you want to hear from us.
After a slow start in January, we finally closed another sale this week - 5 folklories bought by a single customer! Weāve also been getting more reviews on Google, which is not only encouraging but also helps more people learn about how others have been using Folklory.
As we continue to find different ways to spread the word about Folklory, we wanted to understand who the typical Folklory customer is, and based on that, think about ways to reach them. So this week we did some analysis and here are our key findings -
57% of customers were Male, while 43% were Female.
25% of customers bought a Folklory for a spouse or partner and another 25% bought it for a friend.
65% of customers heard about Folklory from someone, and 24% heard about it on The Yah Lah But podcast.
30% of customers selected themselves as 1 of the person to be interviewed.
Seeing this, here are some things that we didnāt expect -
We thought female customers would have been the majority, but we were surprised to see that it wasnāt so.
We also didnāt expect āFriendsā and āSpouse/Partnerā to be the 2 biggest receivers of the podcasts we recorded. We imagined that family (parents, siblings) would have been the majority.
We were happy to see that word of mouth was the biggest way people heard about Folklory - we didnāt expect it to be that big.
Weāre going to be taking these insights back to the drawing board as we try out new ways to get the word out.
Seeing how powerful word of mouth is, weād appreciate it if you could take a minute, and tell one person about Folklory and ask them to check us out.
Hereās a blurb you can text them right now -
Hey! Iāve been following this startup called Folklory. They create personal podcasts to preserve memories of families and friends. Itās a new company but theyāve a bunch of good reviews of Google. Iāve wanted to help them get the word out. I thought you might find it interesting.
