👋🏽 Welcome to The Folklore, our weekly newsletter about our journey of building Folklory, a startup that helps you turn family memories into podcasts. We’ll share weekly updates, wins, and learnings, so sign up if you want to hear from us.
We’ve done many in-person podcast recordings for Yah Lah BUT, and have wanted to try doing the same for Folklory. We hypothesized this could be a premium offering - a more intimate way to the conversation. So, to test it out, we invited some of our old customers to come down to the studio and record.
We spent an entire day and it was a very unique experience for our customers. I think they all enjoyed it a lot. But having said that, it was much more work than we expected. Setting up the studio was something we planned but coordinating with customers and answering their questions on the process - we didn’t anticipate how much additional effort it would involve.
We realized that to justify the effort and cost of doing this, the price would have to be much higher and we don’t think the average customer is willing to pay that high a price. We’re happy to be proven wrong, but based on existing feedback, our customers already find Folklory on the pricey side (We’re aware of this and our goal is to reduce the cost of Folklory. We have a plan and we’ll talk more about it in another edition)
So, while it was a fun experiment, we’ll probably revisit it sometime in the future. The idea of having a dedicated recording studio where people can come in and record a Folklory is something we want to make happen one day.
We did manage to get some great pictures from the day.
Terence clearly had a blast.
Until next time,
Haresh
