👋🏽 Welcome to The Folklore, our weekly newsletter where we talk about our journey of building Folklory. Every week we’ll share updates, wins, and learnings, so sign up if you’d like to hear from us 🚀
Updates from 11th - 15th April 2022
🏆 Wins
Last week we delivered Folklories to 4 customers!
🤔 Learnings
Last week we got no new customers and it was probably because we haven’t been very consistent with our marketing effort. The big learning for us is that we need to step up our efforts in getting the word out and be consistent. We’ve managed to do that with this newsletter but need to do the same on our socials like Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin. We’re even looking for some help with this!
🚨 SOCIAL MEDIA INTERNS WANTED 🚨
We’re looking to hire a social media intern to help us with marketing. If you’re interested or know someone who would be, DM us on Instagram @thefolklory or email us at theteam@folklory.com
🎙Folklory of the week
Last week we had a customer who wanted us to speak with their father to capture stories in his own voice for future generations
“[I want to] Capture some of the most heartfelt thoughts and feelings of my father … I want to have a permanent record of my dad I can share with my future kids.”
Attention to audio
Over the last week, we’ve been busy editing and delivering Folklories to our customers. To those not familiar with sound editing, it might seem like a simple task - merge 2 audio files and hit export, right? In reality, there’s a lot of technical work to make the final product sound the way it does.
Unlike FM radio broadcasts, podcasts should be of higher quality and more pleasing to hear, like something you’d put on your headphones after a long day at work to relax. That philosophy drives how we edit Folklories, where we leverage our experience of delivering over 300 hours of our Yah Lah But podcast to a mass audience. We record using Riverside, a remote recording software used by leading podcasters, that allows us to capture relatively high-quality audio even over voice calls. Once we record, we run it through Adobe Creative Suite, the professionals' choice for editing audio. The same effects we use for our professional podcasts, like EQs, compressors, denoisers, etc. are used for Folklories as well!
We’ll avoid getting into the technical details, but if you’re an audio nerd and would like to know more, do write to us and we’d be more than happy to share our workflow! Our goal is to remove the friction in arranging, recording, and delivering Folklories in as high a quality as possible such that you might even fall asleep to them!
Hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s episode of The Folklore. If you like what we’re doing and want to help, we’d really appreciate it if you could share this with one other person, who you think might like the idea.
If you have feedback, ideas, or just want to get in touch, you can always write to us at theteam@folklory.com. We would love to hear from you ❤️
Until next time
