đđ˝ Welcome to The Folklore, our (not-so) weekly newsletter where we talk about our journey of building Folklory. Every week weâll share updates, wins, and learnings, so sign up if youâd like to hear from us đ
As we still try to publish this newsletter every week - we missed publishing the last 2 weeks đ - weâve started cracking at the next phase for Folklory. In our last edition of the Folklore we shared a report card highlighting the things we had achieved during our #Mission100in100, and today weâll be sharing some goals weâve set for the next 100 days.
Before we share our goals, letâs first talk a little about the areas where weâre focusing our efforts and why. Broadly there are 5 themes:
Get more customers
Work with a company
Train a Folklorist
Work with a âhistoricâ institution
In-person Folklory
Letâs dive into each one:
Get more customers
Our primary goal is to get more customers to try out Folklory. Thereâs a long list of things we need to fix and more customers mean that weâre making good progress. A few things weâll be focusing on are:
Defining our target audience and narrowing it down to one segment.
Better messaging and copy to explain what Folklory is, to this target audience.
Identifying the right marketing channels and putting in a consistent marketing effort to get the word out to our audience.
Weâre also revising our pricing and rehauling our website, which is overdue!
Our goal is to get 50 new customers.
Work with a company
From helping new employees to learn about different people at the company to preserving company stories over the years, we see Folklories being an important part of building company culture and enhancing internal communication. Our first Folklory with a founder was promising and we want to see the kind of impact Folklory has at a larger scale across a company.
Our goal is to work with at least 2 startups or larger companies.

Train a Folklorist
The way Folklory scales beyond the two of us is by bringing on new hosts. Weâve spoken to a few journalists and writers and the idea of capturing stories really excited them - itâs what they do! We also believe that the âart of conversationâ is something that can be taught and thus we want to experiment with having a new host do some of the conversations.
Our goal is to have at least 3 episodes done by a new Folklorist
Work with a âhistoricâ institution
Most museums and galleries preserve information in the form of books, paintings, pictures, etc. We believe that audio could be a new medium used by these institutions. Weâve seen some of our customers do this for their families, and this could very well be a way for communities and society at large to preserve memories for the future. Given our experience and the operational capabilities weâre building to do it at scale, it might be a great partnership.
Our goal is to meet with at least 3 institutions and discuss ways we can work with them
In-person Folklory
Back when we spent a lot of time making Youtube videos for Ministry of Funny, we did a lot of in-person interviews with people (pre-pandemic, all interviews were by default in-person - how times have changed). Given that Folklory is primarily remote interviews, we wanted to spice things off and do a few in-person conversations! Coffee shops, Orchard road, and a Wedding - these are our top picks so keep an eye out on our Instagram.
Our goal is to do at least 2 in-person Folklory recordings
So to summarize our goals for the next 100 days đ
50 new customers.
Work with at least 2 startups or larger companies.
3 episodes done by a new Folklorist.
Meet with at least 3" âhistoricâ institutions.
2 in-person Folklory recordings.
